Facebook went offline for lots of customers on Thursday, with the globe's most preferred social network informing users that "something failed".

When seeing Facebook.com, instead of seeing the regular homescreen or information feed, individuals were greeted with a blank screen and a short mistake message.

" Sorry, something failed. We're servicing it and also we'll get it repaired as soon as we can," the message reads.

The interruption began at around 5.30 pm BST but, for most customers, appeared to have been dealt with around 20 minutes after.

Down Detector, which collects reports of popular services being down, presented blackouts in the UK, Europe as well as the United States.

Naturally, people took to Twitter to have their say.

The web site decreased on Thursday afternoon as well as brief-ly showed up to function once again for some customers.

A spokesperson for Facebook has stated they are checking into what happened.
